It’s no secret that our lives are hectic.  There are so many things to do, all the time.  Work, errands, social engagements, exercise, cooking, taking care of loved ones – it’s no wonder that our minds spiral out of control at times and we lose the sensation of happiness and contentment. What things in life are you attached to?  Perhaps your home, your partner or your favorite food?  We become attached to someone or something present in our lives because it serves us in some way.  It feels good when we have it.  We miss it when it’s gone.  We think about it when it’s not there.  It becomes part of our identity and deep down, we fear we wouldn’t be complete without it in our lives.  However, attachment can be dangerous when our happiness depends on the state or existence of an external factor because it is out of our control. What is zen, really?  You probably know that it originated centuries ago somewhere in Asia and has something to do with enlightenment.  That’s true.  But according to the Urban Dictionary, a modern way to think of zen is this:  a total state of focus that incorporates a total togetherness of body and mind. The feeling of zen is a quiet, inner peace that comes from being aware and accepting the various working parts within ourselves.
